Are We Still Ordering Beauty Boxes?
Subscription services are still around...Are we subscribing to them?
Hello, Gorgeous!
Remember how exciting it was back when we all ordered —and then compared notes —on our subscription boxes? I do. And no matter how many products I test out weekly, I’d still feel a burst of excitement when my beauty box arrived.
While the playing field has definitely narrowed, there still are some fun beauty boxes out there. But who’s ordering them?
Beauty boxes by the numbers
Late last year, Statista ran some numbers on the facts and stats surrounding beauty box or subscription box services. While I’ll admit that I thought interest in beauty boxes to be ebbing, their statistics show that 40% of women might be interested in a beauty box subscription.
More interesting is the fact that income levels didn’t impact spending on beauty boxes in any real way. Quite the opposite. Those earning over $100k wanted to spend less than their lower income counterparts. Something doesn’t quite compute though.
Sampling has always been a huge marketing angle for beauty brands. And beauty boxes often influence spending habits of full size products. On a personal level, I’ve always found beauty boxes to contain maybe one product I liked and a bunch of filler that didn’t interest me.
Out of the current contenders, I still like FabFitFun which always seems to go out of the way to include something over the top amazing. Allure consistently has new and fun products, while test tube by NewBeauty seems to always include full-size products you’d love to try.
The thing is that we have to pay rent or mortgage and myriad bills every single month like clockwork. Beauty boxes are still a fun way to have a private surprise party every month!
This is random curiosity. Do you subscribe to any beauty boxes? I’d love to hear which ones and why in the comments.

@marina this is one of those instances in which Substack isn't allowing me to like or respond directly to your comment. They're a really fun way of testing out new products on a monthly basis. I've noticed that it gets a bit stale after a while, so it's fun to mix up which companies you order from!
I subscribe to Ipsy and love it!
