Hello Gorgeous!
A few weeks back my friends at the Accessories Council — a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the accessories industry — presented a fun and fabulous preview of holiday gift ideas. While their events are always fantastic, they really outdid themselves this year. I’ll be featuring some of my favorites from the event in the coming weeks and in upcoming gift guides.
First up: Jet Set Candy
Charms for every occasion…and none at all
I’m not sure that I believe in the idea of love at first sight, though that was certainly the case for me and Jet Set Candy.
If you’re a fan of vintage style (as I am!) you probably already have one or more charm bracelets. During the Golden Era of Hollywood, and especially the 1950s, the idea of a charm bracelet collecting tiny snippets of your life became popular. Grace Kelly’s iconic charm bracelets appeared in her films as well.
But amulets and talismans have been worn since the dawn of humanity. Over millenia they were used as symbols of comfort, love, protection against disease, shows of faith, signs of superstition or even to carry around spells or bits magic.
We should probably delve into that more fully in a different post. Back to Jet Set Candy.
These charms are made so beautifully and rendered with the greatest attention to detail. There’s a lot of personalization going on, so prices will definitely vary depending on whether you’re choosing a silver charm, or personalized 14k gold.
In an email, Jet Set Candy founder Delia Kosowicz reminded me of some brand highlights.
Jet Set Candy makes charms for every country in the world
One of their coolest charms, The Boarding Pass, is modeled after the actual thing, and is fully customizable with your name, dates, locations, so you can commemorate your honeymoon or other meaningful trips.
Their 3D charms are ridiculously cute. I found myself chuckling over the Toblerone bar that actually comes out in perfect triangular shaped formation.
You can fully customize their bespoke passport book charm so it can be a mini me of your actual passport. There are even pages filled with stamps of countries visited, while the back cover is personalized with names, dates or quotes. This would make an incredible gift or even symbolize your wish list for places you dream about visiting.
As for me, I’m crazy about my New York Public Library charm, though I’m not sure if the lion on mine is Patience or Fortitude, one of the two iconic lions in front of the New York Public Library. On my wish list the National Parks - to visit and then show off!
Jane Win Jewelry good luck charms
Can’t get enough charms? Jane Win Jewelry is also on my radar. I haven’t seen these irl though, I’m just lusting after them!
Jane Win Lucky Bamboo Number 13: I’m big on the idea of making your own good fortune. While 13 is seen as an unlucky number in Christian and Norse theology/mythology (Judas Iscariot was the 13th guest at the Last Supper. The trickster god Loki, the Norse god of mischief is often the 13th guest at the dinner of the gods), it’s a good luck number in others.
In Chinese, the word for 13 sounds a lot like forever or a whole life, making it a symbol of good luck. In Jewish tradition, a boy becomes a bar mitzvah or comes of age at the age of 13 (in Reform tradition, a girl becomes a bat mitzvah at 13, in more traditional observance it’s the age of 12).
Jane Win LUCKY Bamboo Spinner
This one is super cute for when you need a bit more guidance as you’re going through your day.
