Hello, Gorgeous!
While some people grouse about Valentine’s Day being a fluffy Hallmark holiday, I’ve grown to love it. After all, the traditional celebratory foods include chocolate and restaurant fare, there are hearts everywhere, and flowers abound. And in the modern iteration of Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t matter if you have a significant other to celebrate love; you can find something or someone to love (even if it’s yourself!) and celebrate that. But more about V Day in the next week or so.
For now, let’s look at silly holidays that dot our calendars.
Today is Hyaluronic Acid Day (I promise I am not making this up), a nascent holiday invented by a skincare company.
National What Day?
Hyaluronic Acid Day was launched in 2022 by French skincare company La Roche-Posay, ostensibly to raise awareness of the popular skincare ingredient hyaluronic acid. (Please refer to my above statement that I am not making this up). Since they seem very committed to this day, the company website boasts hyaluronic acid products and 20% off all orders.
Sadly, this holiday has minimal recognition since neither Ulta nor Sephora are celebrating the auspicious day.
Years ago, you had to buy a pricey, weighty tome called Chase’s Calendar of Events to find random celebrations. According to the Chase website, “There are currently 12,500 holidays, national days, historical milestones, famous birthdays, festivals, sporting events, and more.” And more coming all the time. You can even invent and submit your own.
Here’s the thing. While I love that we have days to celebrate lipstick (July 29) or storytelling (January 30), I think we can cut back on the silly fauxlidays. Like today, which also happens to be National Squirrel Day (I didn’t make up this one either).
That said, every day is cause for celebration. So, if you feel like splurging on some hyaluronic acid-infused products, I’ll fully support your decision. (Asterwood Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Face is a great place to start).
Are there any not-so-silly random or invented holidays you hold dear? Meet me in the comment section to discuss.
