Phantom Gloss? Oh, Yeah!
Hourglass Volumizing Glossy Balms now come in vegan red formulations. Zero insects harmed.
Hello, Gorgeous!
It’s always a cause for celebration when Hourglass announces a new launch. Earlier this year, they revealed Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balms in their patent-pending Red 0.
This is huge news for those committed to cruelty-free beauty since the shade includes pigment, the first vegan industry replacement for carmine. In case you missed the memo, most red lipsticks use a pigment made from crushed beetles. In a release discussing the new shade, Carisa Janes, Founder and President of Hourglass, said she developed Red 0 as a labor of love, highlighting the brand’s commitment to creating ethical and innovative products while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the industry.
Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balms
If you already love these lip-plumping balms, you’ll probably really love the new shades:
Red 0: This red is bold without being shocking, and the gloss makes it a softer option if you’re exploring a bold lip.
Wander 75: This one is almost universally flattering with a soft peachy pink with added gold and silver pearl (this is my favorite color in the new collection).
Invite 80: A bit bolder, this rosy brown has a goldish pearl like MAC’s holiday look last year.
Secret 85: Less gloss, more of a look. This deep rose has rose gold pearl accents.
Red 0 was first introduced in a limited edition product back in 2021. Wondering how complicated the process was? It took over three years, 175 color experiments, 19 full formulations, and 36 pigment combinations before finding the perfect blend of two high-purity vegan pigments replicating carmine’s color and vibrancy.
If you love Red 0, you’ll be able to find it in four Hourglass products: Confession Lipstick Red 0, Unlocked Satin Crème Lipstick in Red 0, and Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick.
Like most plumping products, Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balms have a bit of a tingly feeling. They’re $38 each on Hourglasscosmetics.com.
