This Vacuum Cleaner Sucks (Everything in its Path)
The Jimmy Mattress vacuum cleaner decimates dust mites and other cooties
Hello Gorgeous!
I have a ridiculous amount of allergies. I also have an odd affection for vacuum cleaners (and review them frequently!) which is probably due to the aforementioned allergies.
Did you know that there’s a new breed of vac specifically created for your mattress? Read on!
Why would you need a vacuum cleaner just for your bed?
I’m always trying to find new ways to get dust and allergens out of my space. But doesn’t a vacuum cleaner just for a mattress sound a bit too specific? Not really if you think about it.
A few years ago OnePoll conducted a survey on behalf of bedding company Slumber Cloud. They discovered that the average American spends 11 hours a day in their bed for a whopping total of 36 years in bed over the course of a lifetime. And that’s a lot of time spent cozying up to the dust mites that might just be hanging out in your mattress or bedding.
Just so you know, it’s impossible to fully rid any space of dust mites - but you can minimize them. And that’s where Jimmy comes in.
Jimmy JV35 Anti-allergen Bed Vacuum Cleaner
If you want to skip the specifics and just find out if I recommend this small powerhouse, the answer is most emphatically yes. I love the Jimmy Anti-allergen Bed Vacuum Cleaner and think it’s worth the $159.00 investment, even more so if you have pets. As of the posting of this story, Jimmy has almost 4,000 reviews on Amazon.
Here’s what you should know:
It isn’t a traditional hand vac. Unlike Dustbusters, or other small hand vacuums, Jimmy is a serious vacuum cleaner that happens to have a smaller footprint than most. The design helps you navigate your mattress and bedding. There’s also an extra long cord so you can use this vac comfortably even on a king size bed. There’s actually a cordless version available, but it’s pricier and the suction isn’t as strong.
It’s heavier than you’d expect. There’s a lot of technology packed into a relatively small unit, which accounts for the nearly 8 lb. weight. The fine folks at Jimmy told me that “since the product comes with an electric brush roller, UV light, and a heater for hot air, this vacuum is heavier than traditional handheld vacuum.” But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You don’t need to lift Jimmy to use, you can simply move it back and forth.
There seems to be a white powder residue rather than traditional dust. Reps from Jimmy told me that the white power is “a mixture of dust mites, dust mite waste, skin dander from human and pets and also dust. The vacuum cleaner cannot distinguish, it just removes all of them from bed and sterilizes with UV light.”
It’s also great on pet fur. Fido shedding all over the place?Jimmy will take care of it too!
You can use three functions. Vacuum + UV, vacuum + tap and vacuum +UV+ tap. I use all three combined, because it feels like it produces the most consistent clean. From what I can surmise, tapping helps dislodge dust from your mattress making it easier to be scooped up when you vacuum.
Corners can be awkward. Again, this isn’t an easy to use hand vac or swivelling larger model. It has a very specific shape and design meant to decimate dust and dander from mites. As such, the shape isn’t what you might expect on a smaller vacuum.
It really works. There’s a HEPA filter and after use, 99.99% of allergens are removed.
One thing to keep in mind. Because the dust vacuumed up is super fine, you might have to rinse the dust cup more often. Be sure to let it dry after rinsing.
Bottom line, I love Jimmy! If you live in the city this could be a great way to get rid of the endless dust and debris from construction that seems to settle into everything. I also use it on my pillows and duvets and couch/couch pillows as well.
So, what do you think? Is it worth investing in a vacuum just for your bed to improve your beauty sleep? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
