Toppers 101: Everything You Need to Know About Clip-In Hair. Part One of a Three Part Series
Is it a wig? Not really. Is it hair extensions? Sort of. Toppers are a great option to cover thinning hair.
Hello Gorgeous!
August is Hair Loss Awareness Month. If you’re a woman over 40, chances are good that you have some level of hair loss.
I do.
When I went through treatment some years back, I not only lost the majority of the hair on my head but also my eyebrows and eyelashes. Thank God, it all grew back in, albeit thinner and darker than it used to be.
Nothing seemed to help my hair loss, so I learned to disguise it
I’m not one to talk about deeply personal issues or grooming habits but so many of you have expressed interest in learning more about toppers, that I’ll be running a two-part interview series on toppers next week.
As for me, I’ve tried every type of hair volumizer or nutriceutical, but they only partially work for me. And my hair is so baby-fine that hair extensions aren’t an option. I’ve found that hair toppers are a perfect option for me when I’m at an event or celebrating an occasion, or don’t have time to spend styling my hair. Toppers are the lovechild of wigs and hair extensions. Your natural hair shows through, your scalp does not.
I try to keep posts here short and punchy, but there is so much information to include that these two interviews will definitely be longer. First up will be an interview with Judy Geisinsky, Founder of Milano Collection Wigs, Certified Trichologist & Wig/Topper Expert.
Just so you know, Milano toppers aren’t cheap, but they last for years. Last month I splurged on a Milano topper before a big event and even on sale, it cost me $1,450.00. I had the stylist cut it to my preferred length and shape and went a little crazy with highlights. It’s perfect. It makes me feel…well…gorgeous.
I’ll also feature topper insights from clip-in extension brand Luxy Hair, which recently launched hair toppers. They graciously sent me one in chocolate brown to try out. Spoiler alert - I love it. I trimmed the hair to create long whispy bangs and weave my own hair in with the topper to create a French braid. It’s not an over-the-top Hollywood red carpet effect, but more like the ability to simply enjoy a good hair day when you need it most.
Do you wear any type of clip-in hair or have a favorite look or brand? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
