Hello, Gorgeous!
Quite a few of you have been mentioning the fact that it feels harder to find stylish and affordable clothing that match your lifestyle and age group. In a post-fast-fashion world, it’s easy to find cheaply made clothing that doesn’t quite fit your body or lifestyle.
In the coming months I’ll be tapping into my network of film and TV costume designers to offer tips on updating your look as you go. In the coming weeks I’ll also be interviewing industry experts offering tips on how to update your LBD for the holidays. I’m also working on a feature on how to seasonally accessorize to look fresh and modern without buying new clothes.
Level up with burgundy accessories
If you follow runway trends, you’ll have noticed that spring and fall both featured gorgeous accessories in deep, moody reds. Not quite scarlet, not quite oxblood, but a deep almost claret clear shade of burgundy. It’s a color that works as well with your faded denim as a crisp white shirt.
A slouchy burgundy bag
One of the looks that showed up nearly everywhere was the proverbial hobo style, updated with softer leather, suede, or vegan alternatives.
Amazon has a woven vegan shoulder bag that looks a lot like its pricier counterparts for under $20. Or this super chic looking suede version for under $30.
If you’re looking for more of a splurge, Bandolier has segued from strictly iPhone cases to cute handbags. Miller is slightly bigger with room for your phone and other essentials. While it isn’t strictly burgundy, the rich brown embossed croc looks of the moment. ($218, Bandolierstyle.com).
Cute burgundy shoes
I’m not sure how long these will be on sale, but last I checked, these Clarks Calla Loafers in burgundy suede were half price and under $50 on Amazon.
You can also jump on a few trends simultaneously with a pair of burgundy cowboy boots. I’ve long been a fan of Ariat, and the detailing on these Bravery Western Boots is fantastic (check out the gunmetal inserts and star detailing. Swoon. $189 on Zappos).
And let us all take a moment of silence for these ridiculously cute Judd burgundy patent leather oxfords by Eileen Fisher. These are great because you can wear them for casual or dressed up ($245, Zappos).
A random note about links. Sometimes I earn a small portion of sales made using links shared here. Most often I don’t. I just like sharing beautiful or cute things with you!
Or bold burgundy lips
Not ready for burgundy accessories? Have some fun with lip color instead. Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink liquid lipcolor in Unrivaled is super shiny and lasting. It offers a nice pop of burgundy on your lips.
Does anyone else love burgundy for fall as much as I do? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
