Hello, Gorgeous!
Drinking more water seems to be an extremely popular New Years resolution, making this a great time to commit to drinking better, cleaner water…Or at least not to sip from a gunk-filled bottle.
A coin that kills bacteria
Ewww alert ahead.
Did you know that reusable water bottles can harbor hundreds of thousands of colony-forming bacteria units per square centimeter? That’s even more than your dog’s bowl.
Here’s an extremely cool way to keep bacteria out of your water bottle or cup.
The Coin of Harmony makes these incredibly beautiful and useful coins that are crafted from real silver and copper and kill bacteria on contact without chemicals. No more filters needed! Simply drop it in your bottle, shake it and you’re good to go. You can keep the Coin in your bottle without the need for daily cleaning. I noticed that even unfiltered water tasted better when the Coin was in my cup.
Here’s how it works: Silver and copper kill of bacteria, algae and fungi on contact, so germs are blocked from growing in your bottle. I’m guessing this is why my mom always drops a few pennies in a vase with flowers.
Notable: I’ve been using one in my favorite emotional support hot/cold Hydro Flask tumbler and have noticed that my Coin developed a white-ish patina after a bit. But it rinses right off. ($40, CoinofHarmony.com).
Clean your stainless steel tumbler or thermos
Speaking of de-gunking your bottles, I really like Bottle Bright. Made with plants and minerals including citrus fruits, wood pulp (really), and hydrogen peroxide & Baking soda (which creates the fizzle), this is an easy (okay, effortless) way of cleaning off the scale or random layers of ick on the inside of your stainless steel tumbler or bottle.
Fill your bottle with warm water, drop a tablet inside, let it fizz, wait a half hour and rinse. And that’s it! I also use this on my personal blender to get rid of peanut butter effluvia left over from my morning smoothies. ($8, Amazon.com).
So do you regularly clean out your tumblers and water bottles, or simply hope for the best? Let’s meet in the comment section to discuss!
