A Trend You Can Easily Skip: Glitter Freckles
Temporary glitter face tattoos are best left to Swifties
Hello, Gorgeous!
This time of year, many of us search for a bit extra when it comes to makeup. Maybe it’s because it’s nearly officially winter and we feel like we need a bit of glow, or maybe its in anticipation of New Years Eve, but shimmer seems to be on a lot of people’s lists.
Taylor’s gold freckled era
Back in October, Taylor Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce and the crowds went wild…not only for the Chiefs, but for Swift’s gold-flecked beauty. She paired a cat-eye with her signature red lips and metallic gold freckles by Fazit.
Fazit has been around for about two years and initially promoted acne products. And as expected with the Swift effect, sales skyrocketed the day after she debuted her sparkly face. “Sales and web traffic have skyrocketed by over 1,000 percent,” Fazit Beauty cofounder Aliett Buttelman told WWD via email.
Gentle readers, I tried Fazit gold freckles so you don’t have to.
Fazit patches go on like temporary tattoos. Position them, place over your face, use a wet towel or cloth and dab for about 60 seconds, then peel off. I’ll be honest, I don’t love the look for anyone out of college, here’s why.
For some reason the application of freckles became a trend a few years back. It’s really okay to skip this one since it can mimic the look of sun damage.
The specific spattering of gold freckles isn’t something you can control, so you could end up highlighting the fine lines you’d otherwise try to hide.
If you have sensitive skin, this can be complicated. I had a hard time removing my gold freckles and my skin became irritated. So not a good look.
Interestingly enough, the package copy promises to transport you to an vintage Hollywood vibe, but it’s more like a festival lewk.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one who remembers (and regularly used) Swarovski temporary crystal tattoos some years back. They had maximum glitter, but more than that - they stay put until removed . If you really want just a bit more sparkle over the holidays, try a product you can better control.
Danessa Myricks Beauty makes a really fun product called Infinite Chrome Flakes Multichrome Gel for Eyes & Face. Apply on eyelids or shoulders before a holiday party for a more subtle shimmer. Or simply add a sparkly white eye shadow by your brow bone and inner corner of your eye.
I’ve become something of a foil-effect curmudgeon since you essentially have no control after application and the sparkle ends up everywhere. (If you still want to try them, Fazit patches are $15.99, Amazon).
So will you turn up the sparkle over the holidays this season or are you going to skip it? Let’s discuss in the comment section.
