When Life Gives You Lemons...
Weekend picks: Limoncello everything, lip balm that's the bomb, must-have handbags, luxury loafers, BK borealis, and Reba X Carole
Hello Gorgeous!
It’s been a bumpy week, but one filled with joyous high points as well - and isn’t that the point of life after all?
As we ease into the weekend, I tried to pull together some products and ideas that will add random joy to your day.
A spa-worthy lip treatment
Sure they call it lip balm, but Pendrell Vanilla Lip Balm feels like the kind of lip treatment you’d get at a spa. Probably because it’s infused with hyaluronic acid and shea butter, and the most subtle vanilla scent. ($15.99)
A buttery soft handbag
I’m having a bit of a love affair with Bolsa Nova bags. they’re made of leather so soft it’s almost wrong to use the typical buttery soft description. They’re also beautifully designed with detailing on the straps, pockets for days, and an atypical assortment of colorways. I have the Bella Large Sling in Pistachio, but if you’re in the market for a fall/winter handbag, I think black would be a perfect choice ($330)
Heritage footwear
If you’re looking for the perfect fall transitional shoe, you’re in luck, and Rex Shoes has an incredible history.
Back in the 1850s in New Orleans, Benjamin Rosenberg founded the brand as B. Rosenberg Shoes manufactured by Rex Shoes. The original brand closed back in 1985 only to be revived by Nanette Rosenberg Adair — a descendant of B. Rosenberg.
A few things to know. The styles are stunning. The leather and suede is absolutely sumptuous. Rex uses eco-friendly practices, ethical manufacturing processes and responsibly sourced materials.
There’s one thing to keep in mind. These shoes are manufactured in Spain. In my own experience, shoes made in Spain can feel slightly narrower. I love my Rex loafers but had to end up giving them to my sister since the sizing was a bit off for my feet. Maybe consider sizing up. (Prices vary, but about $280-$400).
Limoncello for days
A friend and I sometimes discuss the desert island dessert conundrum (You thought we discuss beauty products?). If stranded on a desert island with unlimited dessert options in only one flavor — chocolate or lemon — which would we choose? After sampling pretty much everything from family owned Fabrizia Limoncello’s lemon baking company, I’m opting for lemon. I won’t go into too many details about just the right amount of tartness vs. sugary goodness, but these are next level yum. If lemon is your thing, or if you need a cute gift idea to cheer someone up, definitely keep Fabrizia in mind. (I can’t believe I forgot to rave about the Limoncello they’re most famous for!)
Also. Find your happy place
I think I vaguely heard about Reba McEntire’s new show Happy’s Place, but I’m more excited about the theme song. I love that Reba co-wrote the song with legendary songwriter Carole King and that the two are buds. Who knew?
Northern Lights in Brooklyn South
I was out walking last night and gasped at the color of the sky. It’s almost hard to describe the purpley/pinky/caramel shades lighting up the night. I later found out that the aurora borealis paid a brief and unexpected visit to my part of the world. I’ve long dreamed about seeing the Northern Lights, but this was a gift from the universe to have a sneak peek in my own back yard.
And that’s all for now.
For those observing Yom Kippur, may you have an easy and meaningful fast and G’Mar Chatima Tova. For those not observing, may you enjoy all the pancakes we’ll be missing out on.
So are you planning any weekend splurges? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
